financial help for purchasing a home - low income

boo52601 started this conversation

i am in need of assistance in purchasing a home.  i have considerable debt, but the sale of my present home will pay off all that debt.  i am on social security disability, and breaking up with the person i own the home with.  i only get 924.00 a month to live on.  if i could get assistance to help with financing, i would greatly appreciate it.  i am not sure if i qualify for any assistance or not.  in the area i live it is cheaper to buy than to rent.  i only own enough of my present home to pay off my current debts.  therefore i need help with a down payment and financing.  my credit is poor since i ran into debt waiting to be approved for disability. i would be greatful for any help.

You can take the amount of the down payment, and buy your own home, if you are willing to relocate.

This post is for those persons seeking help with a down payment on a new home that suffer a disability.  I did some research and came up with this:

1.  Go to PHFA Special Programs for Persons with Disabilities.  This particular site is overflowing with information on how to go about getting assistance in your state for the purchase of a new home if you are disabled.

2.  Check out US Home loans for Americans with Disabilities at:

www.disabled-world.com/disability/finance/american-home-loans.php  This is yet again a very informative site breaking it down state by state on how you can obtain assistance for first time home ownership if you are currently disable.

I don't have much information but I figure something is better than nothing and it's a starting point if nothing else.  I know what it's like guys, like yourselves I too am disabled and seeking home ownership.  Never give up because we deserve to have a better quality of life too.  If I find out anything else I will be sure to post in this forum but until next time, happy house hunting.
